The Masters School

The Masters School’s new Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center is the ideal setting for next-generation engineering and computer science learning.

The Masters School, a private day and boarding school in Dobbs Ferry, New York, is creating the ideal setting for next-generation engineering and computer science learning at its new Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IEC) on the school’s Clinton Avenue campus. SBI Consultants was retained to provide cost engineering and owner’s representative services for the construction of a three-story, 20,000-square-foot structure, located in front of the middle school on a sloped, undeveloped portion of Masters’ 90-acre property. Designed and equipped to accommodate engineering and computer science classes, the state-of-the-art IEC includes an innovation lounge, classrooms and makerspace rooms for robotics, coding and other hands-on learning experiences. As part of the new construction, site improvements include new landscaping, native plantings and a vegetation buffer along the existing parking area.
Beginning in the feasibility phase and continuing through design and construction, SBI is providing solutions to guide the design, procurement and construction. The cost estimating process involves a detailed review of project requirements and the overall scope of the project; meeting with the design team, Masters staff and the General Contractor to clarify needs, types and level of finishes and details; site visits; and development of the scope of project broken down by component to allow for cost verification during the project’s later phases. The constructability reviews ensure that all components of the design are constructible and that the details conform to practical industry procedures and Masters’ overall parameters. SBI’s estimating, constructability and owner’s representative services will help determine the optimum value for Masters’ initial and long-term investment. SBI’s project management solutions enable Masters and the team to remain focused on critical pinchpoints to ensure the completion of the project prior to the start of the school year.. The new IEC fulfills Masters’ mission to help students develop into well-rounded, creative thinkers capable of achieving their full potential and become “a power of good in the world.”
