Columbia University Manhattanville
SBI’s Advisory and Technical solutions guided the creation of this open and innovative 17-acre campus that is remaking the urban and economic landscape.
The largest and most ambitious capital project undertaken by Columbia University in over 100 years, the new Manhattanville campus places Columbia at the forefront of the world’s research universities and fulfills its mission to address society’s challenges through the creation of new knowledge.
SBI Consultants was instrumental in helping Columbia realize its vision to reimagine 17 acres of a former industrial zone and create 6.8 million square feet of new academic space, publicly accessible green spaces, landscaped paths and commercial and civic facilities. Through SBI’s feasibility, cost engineering and value engineering strategies, Columbia achieved its mission of creating an environmentally and socially sustainable campus that encourages cross-University and interdisciplinary interaction, and is reflective of New York’s dynamism.
Now complete are the Jerome L. Greene Science Center, the Lenfest Center for the Arts, and the Forum. SBI also provided cost engineering for the expansion of the energy-efficient Central Energy Plant and is steering additional site-wide improvements in coordination with facilities on the Morningside campus.
