Public Hotel
This populist hotel in Manhattan offers “luxury living for all” while staying true to the history, context and spirit of its vibrant downtown location.
Located at 215 Chrystie Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Public Hotel is a mixed use property that exemplifies developer Ian Schrager’s brand of “luxury living for all” while staying true to the history, context and spirit of its vibrant downtown location.
The Ian Schrager Company retained SBI Consultants to provide leadership solutions to create 13 stories of the 258,000 sq. ft. tower replete with 367 hotel rooms, and communal spaces that foster interaction including two restaurants, a tranquil garden and boutique, three bars including a rooftop setting with panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, and a basement level that offers a multimedia performance space by day that transforms into dance club at night.
Beginning with the pre-construction planning for MEP systems and continuing through opening day, SBI’s challenging role in this genre-breaking project consisted of project management and oversight services for the planning, procurement, delivery and installation of owner-furnished furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) to assist with turnover of the Hotel rooms to the operation team. As integral members of the project team, SBI’s engineers supported project leaders in overseeing and reporting on the overall construction process and providing guidance of issues as they arose.
SBI’s leadership solutions enabled the Ian Schrager Company project leaders to make informed and empowered decisions to build, within budget, a populist establishment that diverges from the traditional hotel motif and offers its guests and visitors a refined and singular experience.
